CLIENT: University of Delaware College of Arts & Sciences
BRIEF: The University of Delaware College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) is the largest of seven unique colleges within the university. CAS houses over 80 academic units, research institutes, and outward-facing centers. How can we unify branding across the college in a way that is flexible, doesn’t rely on photography, and further enforces the college’s immense offerings for a liberal arts education?
Skill set: art direction, illustration, brand adherence, copywriting | Illustrator, InDesign, PhotoShop
There are four portfolios of study within CAS – social sciences (represented by the scales of justice), humanities (globe), natural sciences (microscope) and arts (painter’s palette and brush). The lightbulb icon is used to denote college-wide collateral and unite all units within CAS under the idea of innovative thought.
This concept grew to include unique icons to represent any possible field of study. The library of these icons is ever-growing as CAS students personalize their liberal arts experience and develop their own cutting-edge areas of study.
The application of these icons eliminates the need for photographs when resources and time are limited. They also allow for consistency across the design of all collateral where subject matter is vastly different.
Initiatives that require collateral to represent every academic unit within CAS, such as admissions campaigns, utilize iconography and a shared tone to unite all merchandise and signage. For Decision Day collateral, I conceptualized, illustrated, and wrote all copy for sticker sheets customized for each unit hosting prospective students.
